Biogas

In the strongly increasing biogas market segment DBI does not only handle with the production of biogas, but also with the processing and the feed-in of bio-generated gases into the natural gas supply grid. With the modification of the grid access regulations, the gas grid operators are defined involved in a technically as well as an financially way  to the access point. For this, DBI offers specialized assistance for planning, cost determination, and various comparisons.

The modification of the Gasnetzzugangsverordnung GasNZV (grid access regulations) from , July 25th, 2005 was approved at March 19th, 2008. The goal of the regulation is to have a yearly feed-in of 6 billion cubic meters of biogas into the natural gas grid by 2020, and a yearly feed-in of 10 billion cubic meters by 2030 in order to make biogas usage more efficient. The modifications of the GasNZV, concerning the feed-in into the natural gas grid, regard both gas grid users and operators of biogas systems.

The most important modification is contained in §41c, as grid operators have to connect biogas plants, where biogas is conditioned to natural gas quality, prior to the natural gas grid. The costs for the grid connection are split in half between the connection customer and the grid user. As far as the connection pipeline, lengths exceeding 10 kilometers have to paid for by the connection customer. The grid connection is located on the property of the grid operator, he is also responsible for the maintenance and the operation of the grid connection and all associated costs.

The grid connection is defined as follows in the regulation:

  • The construction of the connection pipeline that connects the biogas processing system to the gas supply grid,
  • the link between the connection point and the existing gas grid,
  • the gas pressure regulation and measurement station,
  • the facilities for pressure increase and,
  • the calibratable measurement of the fed-in biogas.

DBI GUT offers the realization of the conceptual work, as well as the planning of the aforementioned interfaces within its engineering-practice (connection pipeline, gas pressure regulation and management station, pressure increase). We offer the following services for grid connection:

  • Inspection of biogas system descriptions, decision-making models, economic studies such as consistency and reflections of the current reality.
  • Dimensioning of the necessary system components / inspection of the existent planning documentation and consultation of the grid operators.
  • Realization and documentation of all planning stages, including the preliminary planning to the point of construction maturation
  • Project management, building inspection and/or site management for the grid user
