Gas Utilization

We conduct engineering, research, and development work in the following sectors:

  • Industrial and domestic gas applications
  • Innovative energy technologies and decentralized energy supply and control
  • Increased energy efficiency of gas utilization
  • Utilization of renewable energy and
  • Further professional training in the rapidly developing gas economy

Research and Development subject areas:

  • Innovative power and heating facilities based on natural gas and renewable energy
  • Development of equipment and components for a decentralized energy supply based on fuel cells and Stirling motors
  • Optimized technologies for the combination of natural gas and renewable energy (Biogas, Geothermal)
  • Optical sensor systems for state and efficiency analysis
  • Monitoring and control of gas combustion processes in industrial thermal process facilities with modern measurement techniques
  • Raw material and process development for thermal process facilities
  • Primary and secondary measures for the reduction of pollutant emissions
  • Investigation of the effects of altering gas composition

Experimental Techniques and Working Equipment:

Three large halls are available for experimental procedures. Process development investigations and process training are carried out in these halls. The following equipment is available in the experimental halls:

  • Multiple flame test tubes/ pipes (ranging from 100kW to 1 MW) for determining the hot and cold wall temperatures
  • Industrial furnace with 4 m3 of useable space
  • Off-gas measurement equipment for the analysis of emissions
  • Digital and analog data acquisition for all test equipment
