Biogas Manual – Processing and Feed-In
The feed-in of biogas is increasingly becoming of interest to the public. The cause for this increase in interest include: increasing power costs (Renewable Energy Law), increasing degrees of heat utilization and regulatory frameworks (Gas Grid Access Regulations).
To prepare for these developments, technical, economical and legal knowledge is necessary. The complexity is therefore quite high. For this reason the “Biogas Manual – Processing and Feed-In” was published for individuals involved in biogas technology and economics. The Manual contains all relevant information for operational practice.
Contents of the Biogas Manual
Biogas composition can vary significantly. The reason for this is the usage of different substrates and different fermentation technology. Based on the diverse gas compositions and the variety of possibilities for biogas feed-in (exchange gas feed-in, additional gas feed-in, etc.), distinct processing and feed-in procedural routes are possible.
The practical Biogas Manual begins by illustrating the fundamentals of biogas production, covering the individual steps of processing and feed-in. The necessary systems are presented objectively, evaluated and compared with other process possibilities. Furthermore, the Manual presents the current cost situation based on current offers and company information (information from 2007/2008). Economical observations are provided for a variety of interconnected scenarios (biogas system enlargement, biogas compositions, etc.), and the most cost-effective procedural path is shown.
Besides containing technical and economical observations, the Biogas Manual contains the newest legal developments (i.e. gas grid access regulations). The current legal situation surrounding biogas is causing an intensified dispute among the gas supply companies. For this reason, an additional chapter discusses the in-house implementation of biogas.
