Example of situation analysis: Supply situation in February 2012 (DVGW Project: Correlation between Security of Supply and the Market 2013)

In recent years security of supply in the gas industry has become ever more important. The fundamental changes currently occurring within the gas industry such as the liberalisation of the gas market and the unbundling of vertically-organised corporations have created a new political and economic landscape. The division of responsibilities between new market participants has led to greater competition but also greater uncertainty. In light of these developments, improving security of supply has become an absolute priority.

Together with partners of the gas industry, DBI has developed a new signal system for warnings and shortages in the gas industry (“Correlation Analysis: Gas Market and Supply Security”). Data from individual signals was identified and evaluated in a series of related projects. Together these signals enable the creation of a short-term warning system, capable of predicting possible shortages in security of supply for gas. The system has been tested in cooperation with gas transport grid operators in order to evaluate the efficiency of the methodology and the reliability of data sources and information channels.

Security of supply is a high priority for us. We offer support in the following areas:

  • Ensuring supply through analysis and optimisation of network areas. In case of damage or failure to major infrastructure elements
  • Analysis of investment decisions to improve security of supply and estimation of potential infrastructure usage
  • Calculating the impact of failures in supply
  • Developing action plans for critical gas supply situations to ensure the most-efficient supply to customers and orderly disconnection
  • Advising on enhancing information flows
